In a shocking incident, a 55-year-old doctor was shot dead at a private nursing home in Delhi’s Jaitpur. The attack took place late at night when two teenagers entered Nima Hospital. One of the teens, who had been treated the night before, requested a change of dressing for his injured toe. After the dressing was done, the teenagers asked for a prescription and proceeded to the cabin of Dr. Javed Akhtar, a Unani Medicine practitioner. Moments later, a gunshot was heard, and the hospital staff found the doctor bleeding from his head.
Police Suspect a Targeted Killing
The nursing staff, who rushed to the scene after hearing the gunshot, described the suspects as being around 16 or 17 years old. Police believe the assailants’ visit the previous night may have been a recce for the attack. CCTV footage from the hospital is being analyzed to identify the culprits. This incident has occurred just under two months after the horrific rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor in Kolkata, which led to nationwide protests demanding better security for healthcare professionals.
