Over 100 passengers aboard an Air India flight bound for New Delhi have been stranded in Thailand’s Phuket for over 80 hours after multiple delays and cancellations due to technical faults, as per several posts shared by passengers on social media.
The flight, originally scheduled to depart for Delhi on the night of November 16, was delayed by six hours due to a technical issue. Passengers were informed of the delay by the airline’s representatives, but after waiting for hours at the airport, they were called to board the plane, only to be deboarded an hour later. The flight was subsequently canceled.
In response to the incident, Air India expressed regret for the inconvenience caused, confirming that the flight was indeed canceled due to a technical fault. The airline assured passengers that ground staff had made efforts to minimize inconvenience by providing hotel accommodations, meals, and assistance. Passengers were also offered alternative flights, full refunds, or the option to reschedule their flights.
However, the situation did not improve, and passengers — including the elderly and children — were further frustrated when, after being told the plane was ready to take off again, it returned to Phuket just two and a half hours after departure due to another technical fault.
Since then, the passengers have been stuck in Phuket, with no immediate resolution in sight. Air India reiterated that the safety and security of passengers and crew remain its top priority, but the prolonged delay has raised concerns among the stranded travelers.
The airline has assured that it is doing everything possible to assist the affected passengers and resolve the situation at the earliest.
