Deadly Collision on Jaipur-Ajmer Highway Causes Inferno
The driver of the LPG tanker that triggered a massive fire on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway has been identified as Jaiveer, a resident of Mathura. He is one of the few who managed to escape the inferno unscathed. According to police, Jaiveer jumped out of the tanker after the crash and began running toward Jaipur. He was out of the danger zone before the tanker leaked gas, leading to the massive explosion that caused the deaths of 14 people and left 23 others injured.
Jaiveer reportedly called the tanker’s owner after the accident and informed him about the crash. The police are now in contact with him and have summoned him to Jaipur for questioning to gather more details.
The accident occurred around 5:30 am when the LPG tanker made a U-turn on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway. This U-turn was temporarily arranged to ease traffic due to ongoing construction. While the tanker was executing the turn, it collided with an oncoming truck carrying bedsheets. The impact caused the tanker’s nozzles and safety valves to break, leading to a gas leak. The resulting explosion trapped passengers in nearby vehicles, causing a deadly blaze.
Road safety experts suggest that the accident could be attributed to several factors, including incomplete construction, poor traffic management, and hazardous road conditions. George Cheriyan, a road safety expert, pointed out that the stretch of the highway where the crash occurred is known for accidents, exacerbated by construction activity. Dr. Prerna Arora Singh, another road safety expert, emphasized the lack of adequate lighting at the intersection, poor visibility, and the narrowness of the road cut, which could have contributed to the tragedy.
The incident highlights the need for improved road safety measures, better traffic management, and enhanced infrastructure to prevent such accidents in the future.
