A teacher in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Seetharamaraju district has sparked controversy after allegedly cutting the hair of 18 students who were late to their school’s morning assembly. The incident took place at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, a residential girls’ school, and the teacher involved, Sai Prasanna, is also responsible for the students’ safety and well-being.
The students, who were late due to a water shortage, had their hair cut by the teacher as a form of punishment. In addition to this, four of the students were reportedly physically assaulted and made to stand outside in the sun. Prasanna also allegedly told the students not to speak about the incident.
The matter came to light after the students shared their experience with their parents. Prasanna defended her actions, claiming that she took the step to instil discipline in the students. Authorities are now seeking an explanation from her regarding the incident.
