Yellow Alert in 14 districts, Rainfall Predicted
Rajasthan is experiencing intensified cold weather conditions, with biting cold affecting many districts, including Jaipur, Bharatpur, Hanumangarh, Jhunjhunu, and Alwar. On Friday, the minimum temperatures across the state recorded a significant drop, especially due to the influence of northern winds. Cities like Jaipur witnessed a 2 to 3-degree Celsius drop in their minimum temperatures. The Meteorological Department has also issued a Yellow Alert for fog in 14 districts of the state, which is expected to continue through Saturday.
Mount Abu, the state’s hill station, recorded a sharp drop in temperature, with the mercury dipping to 0.8 degrees Celsius on Friday. Other cities such as Ajmer, Bhilwara, Alwar, Sikar, Jaisalmer, Sirohi, and Dausa also reported minimum temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius, with some cities like Sikar seeing temperatures as low as 4°C. However, Kota and Dungarpur remained exceptions with relatively higher temperatures.
In the coming days, weather experts have predicted a slight respite from the bone-chilling cold. By Sunday, clear skies and sunny weather could raise both day and night temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. The Jaipur Meteorological Centre further indicated that from January 22, a western disturbance will affect Rajasthan, leading to significant weather changes. This system is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms to parts of Bikaner, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions.
Despite the forecast of slightly warmer weather, the state’s cold waves, particularly from cyclonic winds, have severely impacted daily life. The government has already announced holidays for schools due to the extreme cold and reduced visibility caused by fog. With this, Rajasthan joins other northern states that have extended winter vacations in light of the harsh conditions.
From January 20 onwards, the weather is expected to remain dry with temperatures rising slightly during both the day and night. However, the cold wave is still likely to linger for some time.
