BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has spoken out on the tragic suicide of techie Atul Subhash from Bengaluru, whose family has filed a police complaint accusing his estranged wife, her family, and a judge of abetting the suicide. Atul, who had been extorted for large sums of money beyond his financial capacity, left behind a heartbreaking video detailing the harassment he suffered at the hands of his wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family.
Ranaut condemned what she described as “fake feminism” and expressed her shock over the incident. She claimed that Atul had been under immense pressure due to extortion demands running into crores, which pushed him to take such a drastic step. In her statement, Ranaut remarked, “The entire country is in shock. His video is heartbreaking… Fake feminism is condemnable.”
She further pointed out that while many women are indeed harassed, in most marriage cases, the men are at fault. Ranaut stressed that the institution of marriage, as long as it follows traditions, does well, but recent corruption due to ideologies like socialism and communism has affected it negatively.
Atul Subhash’s 80-minute video and his 24-page suicide note detailed the financial and emotional abuse he experienced. He accused his wife’s family of demanding money, which ultimately led to their separation in 2021. Atul’s wife later filed serious charges, including murder and unnatural sex, against him and his family, claiming that his alleged demand for dowry led to the death of her father from a heart attack. In response, Atul filed a counter case, alleging that his wife had filed false accusations against his elderly parents and brother.
This tragic incident has raised important questions regarding the misuse of laws protecting women from cruelty and has sparked debates about the balance between justice and potential abuse of the legal system.
