Prajwal Revanna : The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the bail plea of former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, who faces multiple charges, including rape and sexual assault. A bench consisting of Justices Dela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma dismissed the plea, highlighting Revanna’s significant influence, which they believed could pose a risk to the investigation and witnesses.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Revanna, argued that a charge sheet had already been filed in the case, and that section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (which pertains to rape) was not initially included in the complaint. Rohatgi further sought the court’s permission to approach it again after six months.

However, the bench declined to entertain the request and noted that it could not interfere with the decision made by the Karnataka High Court. On October 21, the High Court had denied Revanna’s bail plea, reinforcing the seriousness of the charges against him. The Supreme Court, after considering the facts, stated that it had no reason to overturn the lower court’s ruling.
The case has garnered significant attention due to the gravity of the charges against Revanna. In August, the Karnataka Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing four sexual assault and harassment cases involving the former MLA, submitted a comprehensive 2,144-page charge sheet. The charges primarily relate to allegations from a domestic worker who claims she was raped by Revanna. There are also two other rape cases and a sexual assault case against him.
Revanna, who is a prominent figure in Karnataka politics, has vehemently denied the allegations. Despite his influential political connections, the legal proceedings against him continue as investigations into the accusations unfold.
