Sparks From Construction On Gurugram Highway Fall On Vehicles
A video showing sparks falling onto moving vehicles during construction work on National Highway-8 in Gurugram has gone viral, sparking a debate about safety measures. In the 36-second clip, two workers can be seen performing welding tasks on a billboard while sparks drop onto cars, buses, and two-wheelers passing by. Some commuters are seen waiting for the sparks to stop before proceeding, while others express concern over the lack of safety precautions.
Social media users criticized the situation, calling it a “perfect recipe for disaster” and highlighting the lack of traffic control, fire safety measures, and proper work zone isolation. Many described the situation as “criminal-level negligence.” One user pointed out that despite claims of safety, the sparks were falling directly over lanes with moving traffic, not the lane that was closed for safety.
Authorities, however, responded by stating that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) was using “proper safety equipment” and had closed one lane for safety. Despite this, concerns about the safety of the ongoing construction remain, with some comparing the situation to an earlier incident on Gurugram’s Golf Course road, where a speed breaker caused vehicles to “fly.”
This incident highlights ongoing safety issues and the need for stronger precautions during construction on busy highways.
