Noted folk singer Sharda Sinha has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi due to health complications, the hospital reported on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring her condition and has prayed for her speedy recovery.
A Legacy of Folk Music
At 72 years old, Sinha is a prominent Indian folk and classical singer from Bihar, well-known for her folk songs in Bhojpuri and Maithili. AIIMS Delhi posted on X, stating, “Noted folk singer, Smt. Sharda Sinha is admitted in AIIMS, New Delhi for treatment.”
PM Modi’s Assurance
The post continued, “Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji is continuously monitoring her condition and is in direct contact with the treating doctors. He has conveyed his prayers for her good health and speedy recovery through the treating team.”
Family’s Plea for Prayers
Sinha’s son, Anshuman Singh, mentioned that her condition remains “critical.” He expressed concerns about her being on ventilator support, stating, “There are fake news reports of her death circulating on social media. But she is fighting for her life. Doctors are also trying their best.”
In a live video shared on Sinha’s official YouTube channel, Mr. Singh appealed for prayers, saying, “We pray that she comes out of this. This is a difficult time, please pray for us.” Last week, Dr. Rima Dada, the professor in charge of the AIIMS media cell, noted that Sinha was placed on oxygen support due to complications from cancer.
