National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah has described seeking the restoration of Article 370 from the BJP—the party responsible for its abrogation—as “foolish.” Despite this, he emphasized that his party would not abandon the issue and would continue their efforts to address it.Abdullah’s comments come in the wake of the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, where the NC-Congress alliance secured a victory. He reiterated that the National Conference’s political stance on Article 370 remains unchanged. “We have never said we will remain silent on Article 370, nor have we said it is no longer an issue for us. Expecting those who took it away to restore it would be foolish,” Abdullah stated. However, he added, “We will keep this issue alive and continue to talk about it. We hope that one day there will be a change of government in the country, and we will have the chance to discuss this with a new leadership to achieve something for Jammu and Kashmir.”
Abdullah also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honor his promise to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, which was revoked in 2019 when Article 370 was abrogated.
