Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday during his first visit to the national capital since taking office last week. This meeting followed the recent assembly elections in the union territory, where Omar Abdullah’s National Conference secured a significant victory, winning 42 out of the 90 seats.
In its first cabinet meeting, the new government passed a key resolution urging the central government to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. Officials believe that this restoration is a vital step in protecting the region’s unique identity, reinstating constitutional rights, and initiating a healing process for the residents.
The cabinet has given Omar Abdullah the mandate to engage with the Prime Minister and the central government to advocate for the restoration of statehood. The resolution has also been approved by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha
