The fresh registration of beneficiaries under the Madhya Pradesh BJP government’s Ladli Behna scheme for women has been put on hold since August 20, 2023, as stated by Minister of Women and Child Development, Nirmala Bhuria, on Tuesday.
New registrations have not been initiated
In response to questions raised by Congress MLA Pratap Grewal in the state assembly, Bhuria confirmed that while new registrations have not been initiated, the scheme continues to function, and eligible beneficiaries are still receiving financial assistance.
Scheme has 1.29 crore beneficiaries.
The Chief Minister Ladli Behna Yojana, launched approximately six months before the November 2023 assembly elections, provides ₹1,250 per month to eligible women. Currently, the scheme has nearly 1.29 crore beneficiaries.
Grewal had asked several questions about the continuation of the scheme and the enrollment of new beneficiaries. Bhuria clarified that the registration for beneficiaries under the first phase of the scheme was completed by August 20, 2023. New registrations, she explained, have not been started, but separate instructions for receiving new applications would be issued. The pre-registration process was carried out under directives from the Women and Child Development Department on March 4, 2023, and July 20, 2023. The scheme has been implemented in phases, with benefits being given to registered beneficiaries.
