A court in Kolkata’s Sealdah granted bail to Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and Abhijit Mondal, the ex-officer-in-charge of the Tala police station, in the rape and murder case of a doctor. The victim’s body was found on August 9 at the hospital where she was on duty. Following the court’s decision, the victim’s parents expressed deep disappointment, saying they were “heartbroken” and felt that the “system” was failing them.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the case, failed to file charges against the accused within the mandatory 90-day period, leading to their release on bail. The victim’s mother stated, “We thought the CBI would speed up the investigation and bring the culprits to justice, but now with the accused getting bail, it feels like the system is failing us.”
Abhijit Mondal was accused of delaying the filing of the FIR, while Sandip Ghosh faces charges of tampering with evidence. Both were arrested by the CBI. The case was transferred to the CBI after allegations of mishandling by the local police.
The victim’s father said, “We are heartbroken. We trusted the CBI to deliver justice, but now we are left wondering if we will ever see justice for our daughter.”
