Union Minister Kiren Rijiju today responded firmly to the Opposition’s no-trust motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, which was signed by over 50 MPs. The Opposition has accused Dhankhar of partisanship, citing tensions between him and the Opposition members during his tenure.
Rijiju, addressing the motion, emphasized that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) holds a majority in the Rajya Sabha. He asserted, “The NDA has majority in Rajya Sabha… The notice must be rejected, will be rejected, and we will ensure that this kind of action is not accepted.”
The no-confidence motion, primarily initiated by Congress, also garnered signatures from MPs of various parties, including Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party, Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, as well as leaders from Tamil Nadu’s Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Lalu Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal. These parties, despite differing on several fronts, have united in this action against the Rajya Sabha Chairman.
