The Karva Chauth festival, set for tomorrow, is expected to generate around ₹22,000 crore in business across India, marking a substantial increase from last year’s ₹15,000 crore. This growth underscores the festival’s expanding economic impact alongside its cultural and religious significance.
Karva Chauth, traditionally celebrated by married Hindu women fasting for their husbands’ longevity, has evolved into a significant economic event. In Delhi alone, sales are predicted to reach ₹4,000 crore, potentially setting new records for the occasion.
Delhi MP Praveen Khandelwal pointed out that this year’s festival aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Vocal for Local” initiative, promoting the purchase of domestically produced goods.
In the days leading up to the festival, markets across India have seen increased consumer activity, with people shopping for jewellery, ethnic attire, cosmetics, and puja essentials. Red glass bangles, anklets, toe rings, lockets, and beautifully designed Karva thalis are popular purchases. Additionally, silver Karvas have made their debut in the market this year, expected to be in high demand.
