Jammu: Union Minister of State for Personnel, Jitendra Singh, recently announced that Jammu will soon have a dedicated railway division. In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Singh revealed that the Railway Ministry has officially accepted the proposal for a separate railway division for the region. He also highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring the development of railway infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, underscoring the importance of this project for the region’s future.
The decision to grant Jammu a separate railway division is a significant step towards improving the region’s railway services and infrastructure. The proposal was initially put forward by a delegation from the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, led by President Arun Gupta. According to Singh, the delegation emphasized that creating a full-fledged divisional status for Jammu would streamline the management and operation of trains, thereby enhancing connectivity. This move is expected to help Jammu become a key railway hub, especially as the Kashmir Valley will soon be connected to the rest of India through a rail network for the first time in history.

Additionally, the establishment of a separate railway division is expected to create new avenues for employment, benefiting local youth and contributing to the region’s economic development. The creation of a Railway Division Headquarters in Jammu will not only improve train services but also strengthen the administrative and operational structure of the railway system in the region.
Jitendra Singh expressed his satisfaction that the Railway Ministry has initiated the process for this long-awaited change. With Prime Minister Modi’s direct involvement in overseeing the progress, the project is set to enhance Jammu’s railway facilities, bringing long-term benefits to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
