New Delhi: The ongoing political turmoil in Parliament escalated Thursday with the BJP announcing its intent to file a police case against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, following allegations that he was responsible for injuring two BJP MPs during a confrontation.
According to BJP MP Pratap Sarangi, he sustained a head injury after an unidentified third person fell on him, while Parliament’s official door became the center of protest and counterprotest, resulting in further clashes between BJP and Congress members. The altercation erupted over Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent comment, “Ambedkar is the fashion,” which sparked heated exchanges in the House.
BJP Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju was vocal in his criticism, claiming that Gandhi’s actions caused serious injuries to Sarangi and fellow MP Mukesh Rajput. Rijiju, while condemning Gandhi, asked, “How can he use force in Parliament? Under which law does he have the power to physically assault other MPs?” He also mocked Gandhi’s background in Aikido, saying, “Have you learnt karate or kung fu to beat other MPs?”
In a pointed remark, Rijiju asserted, “Parliament is not a wrestling arena,” and announced his intention to visit the injured MPs in the hospital. He also demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi for his actions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reported to have spoken personally with the injured MPs, Sarangi and Rajput, in the aftermath of the incident.
This confrontation is adding to the already tense political environment in the Parliament, with both sides accusing each other of using physical force to prevent their opponents from entering the building. The situation is expected to further escalate as the case moves forward.
