Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and leader of the National Conference, criticized the Congress’s stance on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), suggesting that the machines should not be blamed only when a party loses elections. He questioned the inconsistency of parties, including Congress, who raise concerns about EVMs when they lose, but don’t do so when they win.
In an interview with PTI, Omar emphasized that if a party does not trust EVMs, it should refrain from contesting elections altogether. He pointed out the contradiction in celebrating victories when using the same machines but then casting doubt on their reliability when results don’t favor the party. He also mentioned that during his own loss in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he did not blame the EVMs.
Omar’s comments reflect his stance on the issue, where he stressed the importance of consistency and fairness in the discourse surrounding election processes. When asked whether his views aligned with the BJP’s position on EVMs, Omar clarified that his position was based on principle, not on any partisan agenda.
