Eknath Shinde, the leader of the Shiv Sena, took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra in a high-profile ceremony held in Mumbai. This marks a significant development in the state’s political landscape, as Shinde, who was previously the Chief Minister, now assumes the second-highest executive position in the state under the newly formed government. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by several political dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Ministers from various states, and other prominent leaders.
The newly formed coalition government, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has witnessed a reshuffling of roles among the key political players. Eknath Shinde, who had previously revolted against the Shiv Sena’s alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress, formed an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) last year. His decision to align with the BJP was pivotal in the political realignment in Maharashtra.
In addition to Shinde’s oath, Ajit Pawar of the NCP also took the oath as the Deputy Chief Minister, solidifying the power-sharing agreement between the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP in the state. The new coalition government, often referred to as the “Mahayuti” government, is expected to focus on fulfilling the promises made to the people of Maharashtra, especially in areas like governance, infrastructure, and economic growth.
Shinde, in his speech, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and reiterated the importance of working together for the welfare of the people. He emphasized the commitment of the new government to address the issues faced by the state and improve the lives of its citizens.
