Daughters of former Kannur Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu performed his last rites after his alleged death by suicide. It is reported that Babu took his life following corruption allegations made against him by Kannur District Panchayat President PP Divya during his farewell party. Emotional scenes unfolded at the District Collectorate and at Babu’s residence in Malayalapuzha, where his body was brought for people to pay their last respects before his daughters lit his funeral pyre on Thursday afternoon.
Babu’s wife and daughters, though heartbroken, held back their tears during the ceremony, which was attended by state ministers K Rajan and Veena George. Babu’s tragic death has led the police to charge PP Divya with abetment to suicide under section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
