After taking the oath as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah received warm congratulations from the Dalai Lama. In a personal letter, the Dalai Lama congratulated Abdullah for his coalition’s success in the recent Assembly elections and expressed his long-standing friendship with the Abdullah family. He mentioned that he had the honor of knowing three generations of the Abdullah family, from Sheikh Abdullah to Omar, and conveyed his best wishes for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
On Wednesday, Omar Abdullah took his oath of office and received a guard of honour at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar. Demonstrating his commitment to a people-first approach, he asked the police to refrain from creating “green corridors” or stopping traffic during his movements to ensure minimal inconvenience to the public.
