Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has strongly condemned Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, calling them “condemnable.” Kharge’s comments came after Shah’s controversial statement in Parliament, where he reportedly said, “It has become the fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar,” sparking outrage.
Congress Slams Amit Shah’s Remarks on Dr. Ambedkar,
On Wednesday evening, Kharge doubled down on his party’s criticism of Shah, accusing the ruling BJP of disrespecting the Constitution and undermining the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar. He also demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi take action against Amit Shah, urging him to remove Shah from the Cabinet if he truly respects Babasaheb Ambedkar.
“If PM Modi has any respect for Dr. Ambedkar, he should sack Amit Shah from the Cabinet. Instead of condemning Shah’s remarks, the Prime Minister is defending him. This is an insult to a Dalit hero,” Kharge said, adding that the BJP does not believe in the Constitution.
Kharge Demands His Removal from Cabinet
Kharge also criticized Prime Minister Modi for his six tweets defending Amit Shah, in which the PM lashed out at the “rotten political ecosystem” and political rivals. The Prime Minister had tweeted, “If the Congress and its rotten ecosystem think malicious lies can hide their misdeeds of several years, especially their insult towards Dr. Ambedkar, they are gravely mistaken!”
Modi further claimed, “People of India have seen, time and again, how one party, led by one dynasty, has indulged in every possible dirty trick to obliterate the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar.”
In response, Kharge questioned the need for the Prime Minister’s defense of Shah, emphasizing that if a senior leader like Shah makes a disrespectful remark about Dr. Ambedkar, he should be removed from his position. “But instead, they are supporting each other’s wrongdoings,” Kharge remarked.
The ongoing war of words over Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy continues to fuel political tensions, with Congress accusing the BJP of undermining the Dalit icon’s contributions to India’s Constitution and social justice.
