The annual chadar offering at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah will take place on January 4, 2025, as part of the 813th Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, a significant religious event in Ajmer, Rajasthan. The chadar, a sacred cloth offering, will be presented on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju. This tradition, observed since 1947, has been continued by Prime Minister Modi for the past decade.
The chadar offering is part of the Urs celebrations, which mark the death anniversary of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, revered as Gareeb Nawaz. During the Urs, prayers for peace, brotherhood, and national unity are offered. Additionally, the Jannati Darwaza, a sacred door that is opened only four times a year, has also been unlocked, drawing many pilgrims who believe passing through it grants a place in heaven.
The chadar offering ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. on January 4, following Kiren Rijiju’s arrival in Jaipur, from where he will travel to Ajmer. The occasion highlights the longstanding tradition of fostering unity and harmony across communities in India.
