Besides, other legal requirements should be properly taken care of, the Union Minister told reporters at a briefing.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized that Blinkit’s new ambulance service must comply with all legal regulations and meet the “law of the land.” Speaking at a press briefing, Goyal stated that while the initiative serves a social cause, it is essential that no laws are violated, and all legal requirements are addressed properly.
Blinkit, known for delivering daily essentials, beauty products, and food items, has expanded into emergency medical services by launching ambulances that can reach patients within 10 minutes. The service began in Gurugram with five ambulances, as announced by Blinkit’s CEO, Albinder Dhindsa, through a post on X.
Dhindsa highlighted that the ambulances are equipped with life-saving tools, including oxygen cylinders, AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators), stretchers, monitors, suction machines, and emergency medicines. Each ambulance has a paramedic, an assistant, and a trained driver to ensure quality care.
Blinkit’s goal is to address the gap in quick and reliable ambulance services across Indian cities. Dhindsa noted that the company does not aim for profit with this service, focusing instead on long-term solutions for emergency medical response at affordable rates.
The company plans to expand this service to major cities over the next two years. As part of the launch, Dhindsa urged the public to always make way for ambulances.
The initiative reflects how quick commerce, which gained traction during the COVID-19 pandemic, is evolving to address broader societal needs beyond everyday products.
