The incident involving BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, who were injured during a scuffle in the Parliament complex on Thursday, has drawn significant attention. The MPs, who were admitted to Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital after the confrontation, were discharged on Monday after five days of treatment. Sarangi, who suffered a deep cut to his forehead, had to undergo stitches and was initially in serious condition, though MRI and CT scans showed no significant injuries. Rajput, who lost consciousness briefly, also suffered a head injury but was stable by the time he was brought to the hospital.
The BJP has accused Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, of inciting the violence and even physically assaulting MPs during the protest. Additionally, BJP MP S Phangon Konyak from Nagaland has alleged that Gandhi shouted at her and made her feel uncomfortable during the incident.
As a result of these allegations, the Delhi Police have filed an FIR against Gandhi, with charges ranging from causing grievous hurt to criminal intimidation. Statements from Sarangi and Rajput are expected to be recorded soon. This event is part of a broader context of parliamentary disruptions, with several contentious issues affecting the Winter Session, such as violence in Sambhal, unrest in Manipur, and political ties with George Soros. During this session, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha had significantly reduced operational time, with the Lok Sabha functioning for only 52% and the Rajya Sabha for 39% of their scheduled time.
