Chhath Puja 2024 Bank Holidays: Banks to Close for Up to Four Days in Select States
As Chhath Puja celebrations approach, banks in certain states will observe closures for up to four consecutive days, affecting operations from November 7 to November 10. Alongside educational institutions, banks will close in recognition of the festival, which includes regular weekend holidays.
In states such as West Bengal, Jharkhand, Delhi, and Bihar, bank branches will close early on Thursday, November 7, for evening Chhath Puja prayers. The following day, Friday, November 8, banks in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Meghalaya will remain closed for the morning prayers associated with Chhath Puja and the Wangala Festival. This will be followed by the regular weekend closures on Saturday, November 9, and Sunday, November 10.
Details of Bank Closures:
- November 7: Banks in Bihar, Delhi, Jharkhand, and West Bengal will close early for evening prayers.
- November 8: Banks in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Meghalaya will observe a holiday for morning prayers.
- November 9-10: Regular weekend closures apply.
Where Banks Will Remain Open:
In contrast, banks in several other states will operate as usual on November 7 and 8. Locations such as Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, and Mumbai will not observe a holiday for Chhath Puja, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s 2024 holiday calendar.
