Heavy rains brought Bengaluru to a standstill once again as waterlogging and traffic jams left many commuters stranded for hours. On Wednesday evening, the Bengaluru traffic police were forced to shut down one side of the busy Electronics City flyover due to severe waterlogging, causing a massive traffic jam that lasted for over two hours.
Frustrated by the gridlock and tired of waiting, several commuters, including tech professionals from the city’s IT hub, abandoned their vehicles and chose to walk home. The situation showcased the recurring issue of inadequate drainage and infrastructure in Bengaluru, especially during the monsoon season.
Social media platforms were flooded with pictures and videos of the chaotic scenes, with cars lined up for kilometers, barely moving. One commuter described the ordeal as “complete chaos” and expressed concerns over what would happen in a medical emergency. He shared, “Electronic City flyover towards Madiwala is almost completely jammed. Vehicles were not moving at all for almost 2.5 hours, just to cover a distance of 2 km.”
The traffic paralysis highlighted the city’s ongoing struggle with its infrastructure, especially during peak hours and bad weather. Many residents are now calling for immediate improvements in the city’s drainage systems and traffic management to prevent such recurring incidents.
