At least eight people lost their lives when a bus fell off a bridge into a nullah amid heavy rainfall in Bathinda, Punjab, on Friday. The bridge, which lacked railings, failed to prevent the bus from plunging into the water below.
The bus, which was carrying over 20 passengers, was traveling from Talwandi Sabo to Bathinda. Local residents immediately rushed to the scene to assist with the rescue efforts, joined later by police and local administration teams.
While eight people were confirmed dead, the injured passengers were swiftly transported to a hospital for treatment. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, which was exacerbated by the lack of safety barriers on the bridge.
