Six bodies have been discovered five days after suspected Kuki insurgents took three women and three children, including an eight-month-old infant, from the Meitei community hostage in Manipur’s Jiribam district, bordering Assam.
On Friday night, the bodies of a woman and two children were brought to a morgue in Silchar, Assam, amid rising tensions in the region. Initial reports from the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) indicated that the bodies were of adults and children, with signs of decomposition.
By Saturday afternoon, authorities confirmed that two of the bodies were of children and one was of a woman. The bodies showed signs of bloating due to decomposition. Later in the day, sources confirmed that three more bodies had been found, bringing the total to six. These additional bodies have not yet been brought to SMCH for examination and identification.
